The Crone Archetype (Wise Woman)

The crone archetype

Introduction to the Crone Archetype - 65+

Ah, menopause—the time in life when we trade in tampons and cramps for hot flashes and a newfound appreciation for layers.

Those pads? They earned their wings years ago.

We've made it through the initiation of menopause, and are now post menopausal (even though we still may have a hot flash here or there).

Is it time to retire, celebrate, or reinvent?

What should we be leaning into during this phase of life?

Something transformative is happening.

It's time for the crone archetype: the wise woman within us all who’s been waiting for this phase of life to make her grand appearance.

The crone is not some scary old lady lurking in fairy tales; she’s the embodiment of wisdom, power, and clarity.

She’s the voice in your head telling you to stop apologizing for taking up space, to embrace your experience, and to live boldly and authentically. She reminds us that there is only so much time left, and we can unapologetically live whatever version of ourselves that we want to be.

This archetype often shows up during midlife and post-menopause, a time when society tries to convince women they’re fading into the background. Spoiler alert: the crone is here to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Far from signaling the end of something, the crone archetype represents a new beginning—a time when you can lean into the wisdom you’ve earned, let go of what doesn’t serve you, and fully step into your power. And trust me, she’s way cooler than she sounds.

The Wisdom of the Crone

Let’s talk about the good stuff—the wisdom the crone brings to the table. Think of her as the older, unapologetic version of yourself who knows when to speak up, when to stay quiet, and when to order dessert just because.

She’s not just wise; she’s intuitive, resilient, and deeply self-aware. These are qualities that tend to come with life experience, and menopause has a funny way of stripping away distractions so you can focus on what really matters.

First, there’s intuition. Post-menopause is often a time when women start trusting their gut more. You’ve spent decades navigating life’s ups and downs, so why not lean into that inner knowing? The crone archetype encourages you to stop second-guessing yourself. She’s that voice whispering, You know exactly what you’re doing—go for it.

Then there’s resilience. Let’s face it: by midlife, you’ve likely faced some tough stuff. But here you are, still standing, maybe even stronger than you realize. The crone sees your resilience and reminds you that you can handle whatever comes next.

And let’s not forget self-awareness. The crone archetype helps you realize that you don’t have to say yes to every invitation or explain your choices to anyone. She’s about knowing yourself, owning your boundaries, and finding joy in the freedom to just be.

The best part? The crone doesn’t care about society’s outdated standards for women. She’s too busy being fabulous and wise to worry about fitting into anyone else’s expectations.

How the Crone Can Empower You

Now let’s get to the heart of it: how embracing the crone archetype can make you feel like the most badass version of yourself. For starters, she’s a huge fan of self-acceptance. She’s the one gently reminding you that your laugh lines and gray hairs aren’t flaws—they’re badges of honor, proof that you’ve lived a rich, full life. And let’s be honest, the alternative to aging isn’t exactly appealing.

When you channel your inner crone, you start to let go of perfectionism. Don’t want to wear makeup? Great. Want to spend your afternoon reading instead of cleaning the house? Go for it. She gives you permission to live life on your terms without feeling guilty about it.

Confidence also takes center stage when you embrace the crone archetype. Think of her as your hype woman, standing in the background with a megaphone yelling, You’ve got this! Whether it’s starting a new hobby, speaking up for yourself, or simply wearing the sparkly earrings you love, the crone is all about owning your power.

Finally, the crone archetype can help you tap into a renewed sense of purpose. This phase of life isn’t about fading away; it’s about shining in new ways. Whether that means mentoring others, pursuing a passion project, or simply showing up as your authentic self, the crone is here to guide you every step of the way.

So, what’s the crone’s big message? It’s simple: you are enough, just as you are.

The wisdom and power you’ve gained over the years are meant to be celebrated, not hidden. This is your time to step into your authenticity, embrace the freedom that comes with midlife, and live unapologetically.

Life doesn’t end after menopause or after 65—it evolves if you allow it.

The crone is here to remind you that this phase is filled with opportunity and joy, as long as you’re willing to claim it. She’s the friend who tells you to stop worrying about what other people think and start focusing on what makes you happy.

You’ve got this, wise woman. And the crone? She’s cheering you on.
